Local recruit felt McMaster ‘perfect fit’

Hamilton running back joins Vanier Cup Champions’ 2015 class

Eric Blake will be playing at the CIS level in front of the hometown crowd.

Recently, the 6’1 190 pound defensive back from Hamilton, Ontario signed with Yates Cup Champions, McMaster Marauders.Β  Blake will join the team for the 2015 OUA season.

β€œThe reason I committed to McMaster is it felt like the perfect fit,” explained Blake of his decision.Β  β€œBeing from Hamilton and not wanting to go far for school, McMaster was the perfect opportunity.”

β€œLiving only 10 minutes away from the school helped influence my decision as I know I’ll be able to have friends and family in the stands for every game.”

Additionally, academic and the strength of the football program prompted Blake to choose McMaster.

β€œMcMaster’s reputation of academics and athletics was a huge factor in my commitment,” added the running back. Β β€œMcMaster’s reputation in athletics shows as there football team has competed in the Vanier in three of the last four years.”

β€œIn academics, McMaster gives you the best education and the opportunity to succeed after university. During my time at McMaster University I plan on receiving a great career in athletics and academics and to hopefully fulfill my goal to play in the CFL or get a job being a physical therapist.”

Among the teams Blake has previously played for during his career include Westmount Wildcats of the Hamilton-Wentworth Intercollegiate Athletic Association (HWIAA) and Hamilton Hurricanes of the Ontario Football Conference. In addition to running back, he has also played at the running back position during his career.
