Local recruit felt UBC was “right choice” (VIDEO)

North Vancouver receiver joins CWUAA team’s 2016 class.

While it wasn’t easy, Jacob Ghazizadeh finally made a decision on his gridiron future.

The 6’3,193 pound receiver from North Vancouver has committed to the University of British Columbia (UBC) Thunderbirds.  Ghazizadeh will join the team for the 2016 CWUAA season.

“Deciding where I wanted to spend the next five years of my life was a very stressful and difficult choice,” expressed the offensive standout.  “UBC has always been a school that has stood out to me even before the Coach [Blake] Nill ‘Era’ because it is known as one of the top universities in Canada.”

“In my Junior and Senior Season, I have been offered and recruited by several CIS and NCAA institutions.”

Ultimately, Ghazizadeh opted for the Thunderbirds for two reasons.

“My biggest factor in deciding where I wanted to play ultimately came down to the academics and how comfortable I felt there,” explained the British Columbia receiver.  “I imagined myself at UBC over other schools because it just felt like the right choice.”

“I trust what Coach Nill, Coach [James] Colzie, Coach [Paul] Orazietti and the other coaches are doing to continuously build the UBC football program. I can’t wait to start my collegiate career in the Blue and Gold playing for British Columbia.”

Recently, Ghazizadeh completed a stint with the Handsworth Royals of the British Columbia High School Football Association (BCHSFA).  In 2015, the receiver led the league in touchdowns with 12 as well as amassed 677 yards on 35 receptions (average of 22 yards per reception) in eight games.

During his career, he has been recognized for his play by being selected as a BCHSFA ‘AAA’ All-Star and also being named Royals MVP.
