Salmon Arm quarterback/kicker joins CWUAA team’s 2016 class

The opportunity to play in front of the hometown crowd was too good of an offer to pass up for Garrin McDonnell.

Consequently, the 6’2, 210 pound quarterback/kicker from Salmon Arm signed with provincial CIS team, University of British Columbia (UBC) Thunderbirds.  McDonnell will join the team for the 2016 CWUAA season.

“I committed to UBC because for one, academics are very important to me and UBC has a great reputation for academics,” explained McDonnell of his decision.  “Not only is UBC close to home, many of my friends are either going there or have already gone and they have encouraged me to think about applying.”

“There is no doubt in my mind that UBC may not be a good football team, that is also why it was appealing to me because I knew that if I made the team, I would have to work my butt off to earn a position, and there is no greater satisfaction to me than earning something by working hard to obtain that goal. For me UBC is the whole package and I am very excited to be going to school there.”

McDonnell, who has lived in Parksville for the past three years, completed his career with Ballenas Whalers of the British Columbia High School Football Association (BCHSFA).
