Local recruit realizes childhood dream with Golden Bears

Edmonton offensive lineman joins CWUAA team’s 2016 class.

Growing up in Edmonton, Kemal Kochisarli only hoped his ultimate gridiron dream would eventually come true.

Recently, the 6’4, 315 pound offensive lineman made it happen as he signed with the University of Alberta Golden Bears. Kochisarli will join the team for the 2016 CWUAA season.

“I chose the University of Alberta because ever since I was little I loved going to Golden Bear games and dreamed of one day putting on the jersey and playing for the Green and Gold,” recalled Kochisarli.  “Luckily, it all made sense since I am currently enrolled at MacEwan University and would transfer to the University of Alberta this coming fall.”

“As well as being able to play in front of friends and family members and sharing this experience with them is always nice.”

Moreover, the lineman has faith that the Golden Bears football program has what it takes to get to the next competitive level in both the CWUAA and CIS.

“Of course the program is on the rise and the coaching staff really believe in taking this program to the next level,” added Kochisarli. “I also knew a lot of guys on the team already so that made for an easier transition.”

For the past three seasons, Kochisarli has played for the Edmonton Wildcats in the Prairie Football Conference (PFC) of the Canadian Junior Football Conference (CJFL).
