Longhorn commits to Yates Cup champs Golden Hawks

Laurier adds seventh commit to 2017 class.

John Oā€™Reilly, a defensive end from Corpus Christi Catholic Secondary School, will be exchanging his longhorns for wings after committing to the Laurier Golden Hawks.

The 6ā€™5, 240lbs Burlingtonian has spent his high school career with the Corpus Christi Longhorns in the Halton Secondary School Athletics Association. He has also suited up for the Burlington Stampeders in the Ontario Football Conference. Now, he will be donning the purple and gold as a member of Laurier.

Oā€™Reilly said he chose the school because he could see himself there for the next four years. He was also impressed the progress the team has made in the past four years. (The Golden Hawks made it to this yearā€™s Uteck Bowl, falling to the Laval Rouge et Or.)

The coaches also played a role in his decision to become a Golden Hawk. ā€œThe coaching staff are all very nice and clearly know what they are doing and what it takes to win,ā€ he said.

Oā€™Reilly, who was the Stampedersā€™ defensive lineman of the year and a 2016 OFC All-Star, is interested in the Bachler of Business Administration at Laurier.
