Longtime return to Alberta now reality for Golden Bear commit

Golden Bears brings in a commit from southern Alberta.

Alberta is calling Kobe Holloway, an outside linebacker from Notasulga High School, back home in the form of a chance to play football with the University of Alberta Golden Bears.

“I felt it was the best spot for me to garner a great education in my field of study and also become a great athlete,” Holloway said of his new school. Holloway, who is interested in taking biomedical engineering, added that a major factor in his decision was the school’s world-renown engineering program.

On the football side of things, the 6’0, 200lbs versatile athlete said that he really loved the atmosphere and personalities of the coaching staff. “They establish and instil an atmosphere of family, but at the same time, they push and strive for you to be your own individual,” he said.

Holloway spent his senior year with the Notasulga Blue Devils in Notasulga, Alabama. He was a regional first-team all-star this past season. He finished the year with 152 tackles, 117 of those were solo, three sacks and 16 tackles for loss. Prior to his days down south, he played with the Strathmore Spartans (Rangeland Football Conference) in his hometown of Strathmore, Alberta. In his sophomore year, he was team MVP. The year before, he was rookie of the year and the league’s MVP on offense.

Although he has primarily played as a linebacker and strong safety, Holloway said, “Throughout my career, I didn’t have a defined or set position so I was able to play majority positions and at high level.” He has played as a running back, quarterback and wide receiver as well.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
