LOSSA (Durham, ON): Week 6 Recap “Battle of undefeated teams today”

Entering the final week of regular season play, the Port Perry Rebels have captured Tier Two divisional honours with a perfect record of 6-0 (the Rebels have a bye this week). Within Tier One, the divisional title will be decided on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. as the Holy Trinity Titans visit Donald A. Wilson. Both the Titans and Gators sport undefeated records of five wins in five starts.

Tier One Senior


Wilson 21, Ajax 0
The Gators exploded for three majors, two by Greg Morris after Omar Williams opened the scoring, in the first 8 and a half minutes of play. The winless Rams, who have now been shut out three times this season, were then able to neutralize the Gator offence, holding them off the scoreboard for the duration of the game. Chivon Gallagher was a perfect three for three in point after attempts.

Paul Dwyer 31, Richardson 21
The Paul Dwyer Saints, in their final game of the regular season, put a stop to their four game losing streak as they defeated the Richardson Storm 31-21. Garrett Brown, Gabe Burnside and Jake Radford led the Saint offence by recording touchdowns. The twenty-one points that the Storm recorded represented more scoring points than they had scored through their first four league games.

Holy Trinity 29, Pickering 0
Earl Anderson’s 72 yard punt return early in the second quarter proved to be all the points that the Titans would require as they shut out Pickering 29-0. With the wind at their back in the opening quarter, the Trojans were unable to pick up any points despite two possessions within the Holy Trinity red zone. Ryan Dus with runs of seven and nine yards would up the margin to 20-0 after three quarters while Nathanial Allen would close out the scoring with a 45 yard fourth quarter run.

Tier Two Senior


Uxbridge 21, Sinclair 0
Receiver Chad Menzenburg scored the first two touchdowns of the game as he gathered in pass receptions of 20 and 30 yards to lead the 3-3 Tigers to a 21-0 win over the Sinclair Celtics. The loss dropped the Celtics to a record of 3 wins and 2 losses. Dylan Smith chipped in with nine scoring points as he returned a punt 50 yards to end the second quarter of play and contributed three singles from a missed field goal, a kick off through the end zone and a punt single.

O’Neill 25, Denis O’Connor 6
Leading 10-0 at half time, the Red Hawks saw their lead reduced to four when James O’Brien returned an O’Neill fumble 55 yards early in the third quarter. O’Neill put the game out of reach when Jordan Stone scored his second of three touchdowns with just under five minutes remaining on a 5 yard run. Stone, who had earlier returned a punt 40 yards for a major, closed out the scoring with a 71 yard run with less than two minutes remaining in the game.

Port Perry 28, Notre Dame 12
For the first time since 1973, the Port Perry Rebels have posted an undefeated season in LOSSA football as they defeated the Notre Dame Cougars 28-12. Nick Corsi (with two), Nathan Scott and Arthur Strahl each recorded touchdowns. Replying for Notre Dame were Hayden Plourde and Jordan Urquhart. The loss was Notre Dames third in five games.

Eastdale 50, Bowmanville 0
In a game played under the lights at Clarington Fields, the Eagles recorded six first half touchdowns as they galloped past the Bowmanville Talons 50-0. Garrett Williams led the offensive effort with a pair of majors and Brandon J. Murphy was good on all seven converts. The Talons, winless in five starts, have only been able to record two majors with one game remaining.

The Junior Gators improved to 4-1 with a 28-7 victory over the Junior Rams as Andrew Smith found the house three times. Delmar Brown’s 14 yard run with less than a minute remaining broke the shut out.

John Baron recorded two of the seven Saint touchdowns as Paul Dwyer defeated Richardson 48-21. Justin McFarlane replied with two majors for the Storm, who remain winless in five games.

Andy Collison, with his first of three touchdowns, returned the opening kick off 105 yards and Raekwon Grant (25 yard run) put the Trojans ahead by fourteen before the game was a minute old as the undefeated Trojans rolled to their fifth win of the season. Blair Winner recorded two touchdowns for the Titans.

Griffin Palmer and Kane Carter each posted two touchdown efforts for Dunbarton as they improved their record to 2-3. The Junior Rebels, with a large composition of Grade 9 students, finished the regular season without a win.

Eastdale 23, St. Stephen 12
Ben Donnelly’s eleven point effort enabled Eastdale to post their fourth win in five games as the Eagles prevailed over St. Stephen 23-12. Drew Pottle and Josh Cousins also scored touchdowns for Eastdale while Ryan Cooney and Mitchell Reece posted Royal majors.

Pine Ridge 34, O’Neill 1
Meschach Green, with three touchdowns and four converts, has now recorded 100 scoring points (12 touchdowns, 3 field goals and 19 converts) in five games as the undefeated Pumas clinched first place within the Tier Two Junior division. Bendon Costello’s single represented the only scoring point for O’Neill.
