Monday, October 3rd


Ajax 31, Richardson 7

The Senior Rams turned back Richardson 31-7 to remain undefeated through two games as Brad Benedetto recorded two touchdowns for the second consecutive game.

Benedetto opened the scoring in the first quarter with a three yard run and closed out the scoring in the final frame with a 16 yard carry. Also scoring for the Rams were Morgan Humes on a 65 yard pass and run and Triston Smith on a seven yard run. Place kicker Tobin Semple converted all three majors and added a 26 yard field goal. Leigh Phillip accounted for all the Richardson scoring points as he was on the receiving end of a 24 pass with six seconds remaining until the half. His successful convert reduced the deficit to 17-7 at the half.

Wednesday, October 5th

St. Stephen 34, Bowmanville 0

The Royals notched their first win of the season in three games as they shut out the Bowmanville Talons 34-0. This game, which was much closer than the final score, remained scoreless until the midway mark of the second quarter when Kyle Rideout hauled in a 21 yard pass to put the Royals ahead to stay. Just over three minutes later, Cameron Gilmore scored this first of two touchdowns on a 64 yard pass and run play. Connor Vale’s convert gave the Royals a of lead to 13-0 at the half. St. Stephen would extend the lead to 26-0 after three quarters as quarterback Braden Labanovich would call his own number on a one yard keeper and Gilmore would post his second major of the game with a 12 yard reception (Vale adding the convert). Idahossa Yorke with a 12 yard pass reception and Bryson St. Denis also receiving a pass for the two point convert would complete the scoring. With the loss, the Talons fell to 0-2.

Thursday, October 6th

Pine Ridge 24, Ajax 21

Playing under the lights at Pine Ridge, the Pumas and Rams (both 2-0 entering the game) provided those in attendance with an excellent and competitive game. This game came down to the final minute when a potentially game tying field goal by the Rams missed to the left thereby preserving a three point Puma victory. Both teams scored three touchdowns and three converts, however Sean Smith’s successful field goal proved to be the difference. Scoring touchdowns for the Pumas were Meschach Green (with two) and Curtis Innis. Replying for Ajax were Tristan Smith with two touchdowns and Josh Wickens. Puma’s Sean Smith and Ram’s Tobin Semple handled the convert duties.

Sinclair 14, O’Neill 12

For the second consecutive year, the Celtics prevailed over the Red Hawks by the slimmest of margins. The 2010 game ended 1-0. This year, the teams were able to post three touchdowns with Xavier Ellis and Daniel Wark scoring six pointers for the winners. Scott Gunn replied with a major for O’Neill while Brendan Costello posted six kicking points via a field goal and three singles. The difference in the game proved to be the two converts recorded by Matt Gynn. The Sinclair win pulled them even with O’Neill in the East Division as both teams sport 2-1 records. Paul Dwyer also has recorded two victories however the Saints with a bye this week have played one fewer game.

Richardson 13, Notre Dame 3

In a match between two winless teams, the Richardson Storm prevailed by a score of 13-3. Leigh Philip, who also added a convert, and Trevor McGarrity each recorded touchdowns for the Storm who had dropped their first three games of the season. The Cougars, who had lost their season opener by one point last week, were held to a single by Tyler Shapton and a two point safety awarded to Massimo Mauro. With the win, the Storm currently occupy the fourth and last playoff position in the Western Division, two points ahead of both Denis O’Connor and Notre Dame, both of whom have two games in hand.

Friday, October 7th

Uxbridge 27, Port Perry 0

The Shoppers Drug Mart Trophy, emblematic of North Durham football supremacy, is heading west this year as the Uxbridge Tigers prevailed 27-0 over the Port Perry Rebels. Presented first in 2005 when Port Perry returned to football after an absence of thirty years, the cup is awarded to the Senior team that prevails during their regular season meeting. The win by Uxbridge, their first since 2008, gives the Tigers a 3-2 with one game tied edge.
Chris Gladney with a 40 yard fumble recovery opened the scoring for the Tigers two minutes into the game. A second quarter four yard run by Jacob Wilson extended the margin to 14-0 at the half. Following a scoreless third quarter, the Tigers posted two touchdowns on a short run by Andrew Edwards and a fake punt by Gladney, which resulted in a 34 yard touchdown run. Lee Cowie added three converts. The defending champion Rebels have yet to score a point through two games this season.

Monday, October 3rd

Ajax 24, Richardson 0

The Ajax Rams defeated the Richardson Storm 24-0 as they opened the season with back to back shut out victories. The Storm now sit at 1-1. The Rams built a 16-0 half time lead as both Alfred Green and Brad Till each scored rushing majors from 35 and 7 yards respectively. Richardson also elected to concede a two point safety when faced with a punting situation deep in their end of the field. Mitch Fowler picked off a Storm pass in the final quarter, returning the ball 83 yards for the final Ram touchdown. With just over three minutes remaining, Till, who was a perfect three in three in conversion attempts, missed a 27 yard field goal settling for a single point to close out the scoring.

Wednesday, October 5th

St. Stephen 55, Bowmanville 12

In a game featuring two undefeated teams, Mitchell Reece contributed four touchdowns to lead the St. Stephen Royals to victory. The versatile Reece has now posted nine touchdowns over three games. His three touchdowns were on runs of 8 and 76 yards with a 68 pass reception sandwiched in between. Darby Bradley, Riley Adey, Taylor John and Donovan Delgrande also chipped in with six pointers for the Royals who have averaged 53 points a game through their first three games. Cameron Asselin (five) and Dannis Bastas (two) handled the Royals converts. Replying for the Talons were Kyle Kelly (8 yards) and Jake Gagnon with a five yard scamper in the final minute.

Thursday, October 6th

Ajax 24, Pine Ridge 6

Puma’s Aidan Thomas was the first player to score a point against the junior Rams this season however his touchdown was not enough as the winless Pumas dropped to 0-3. Matthew Williams with two touchdowns and Jeffrey Benedetto with one paced Ajax to the victory. Brad Till added two converts and the Rams defence was credited with two safeties; one by Mitch Fowler and the second awarded to the team. Ajax currently shares first place with both Eastdale and St. Stephen as all three teams are undefeated in three starts.

Eastdale 42, Paul Dwyer 6

During a scoreless opening quarter, Riley Palmer had two first quarter touchdowns (98 and 34 yards) called back due to penalties. Undeterred, Riley would slice and dice through the Saint defense in the final three quarters to post six touchdowns (30,10, 32, 80, 81 and a short 2 yard effort) to lead the Eagles to their third win in three games. Through those three games, Eastdale has scored fourteen touchdowns with Palmer scoring all but one of these touchdowns. Cody Daly successfully added the point after on all six majors. Michael D’Annunzio posted the lone Paul Dwyer touchdown as the Saints dropped to 1-2.

Friday, October 7th

Uxbridge 28, Port Perry 21

For the second consecutive game, the Port Perry Rebels were unable to parlay a half time lead into a victory. The Tigers, who had never led, took the lead for the first time with only 48 seconds remaining on a six yard pass and run to Braeden Whitehead. The Rebels held a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter as Trenton Roy-Mugford scored the opening two majors of the day (13 yard run and 6 yard pass). The Tigers replied with two majors of their own prior to the half on a 64 yard pass to Jason Simmonds and an 84 yard run by Lucas McMinn. A failed Tiger convert gave the Rebels a slim 14-13 lead at the half. In the third quarter, Roy-Mugford (48 yard run) and McMinn (14 yard run) exchanged touchdowns however a two point convert by Simmonds pulled the teams even at 21-21, thereby setting the stage for Whitehead’s last minute game winning pass reception. Braeden Vavassori converted all three Tiger touchdowns, while Callen Hageman recorded two point after scores for the Tigers.

O’Neill 21, Dunbarton 0

Isaiah Wilson’s two touchdown effort in the first half was all the scoring that the Red Hawks would need to earn their first victory of the season as they downed the winless Spartans 21-0. Wilson, who opened the scoring with a sensational 84 yard punt return late in the first quarter, added a second quarter score with a 52 yard run as the Red Hawks led 14-0 at intermission. Colin Flamminio, who converted all three O’Neill touchdown, would complete the scoring with a 72 yard touchdown carry in the final quarter.
