Tier One Senior

Thursday, October 13th

Pickering 15, St. Mary 12

The Pickering Trojans exploded for fifteen points in the second quarter to improve their record to 2-0 and they turned back the Monarchs 15-12. St. Mary had held the lead entering the second quarter as Carmen Scala found the end zone with an 18 yard run in the final minute of the opening quarter.

Brent Shepherd and Tristan Clough with pass reception of 28 and 13 yards, provided the touchdowns for the Trojans. Mike Stobbart, who converted both majors, sandwiched a single in between with a booming 55 yard punt single. With just over ten minutes remaining, the Monarchs cut the Trojan advantage to three as Trystan Colaire scored on a 13 yard pass reception. The Monarchs mounted a furious drive late in the fourth quarter however Josh Small with his second interception of the game gave the Trojans possession of their own 13 yard line with seven ticks remaining on the clock to preserve the Pickering victory.

Wilson 49, Holy Trinity 28

On Thursday night, the big winner in the Battle for the Cure was the Canadian Cancer Society as the Donald A. Wilson Gators and Holy Trinity Titans donated all proceeds to this worthwhile charity. The Gators wearing pink uniforms in support of the cause, prevailed on the gridiron posting a 49-28 victory over the Titans. One minute into the game, the boys in pink struck for a 71 yard pass and run reception by Travis Gonsalves-Akers. Chivon Gallagher with his first of five converts gave the Gators a seven point lead. The Titans replied with a touchdown two minutes later when Steven Courtney called his own number from the one yard line. Joe Mastromarco added the convert to even the score. The Gators increased the lead to 21-7 before the first quarter was over as Nikita Starchenko on a 23 yard pass reception and Keldyn Ahlstedt on a scintillating 109 yard punt return posted touchdowns. The teams exchanged touchdowns in the second quarter as Nathaniel Allen with his first of three rushing touchdowns on the day scored for the Titans while Starchenko notched his second pass reception touchdown (16 yards). Omar Williams, held off the scoreboard in the first half, improved his two game touchdown total to eight with three touchdowns on runs of 12 and 5 yards as well as a pass reception of 50 yards in the second half. Allen replied with two for the Titans. Starchenko did add a two point convert on the final Williams touchdown to up his game point total to 14 while Mastromarco completed a perfect four for four convert day for the Titans. The win allowed the Gators to pull even with the Pickering Trojans atop the Tier One Division standings while the Titans find themselves tied with St. Mary with 0-2 records. The Gators and Trojans will decide the 2011 regular season division champions at Oshawa Civic on Thursday, October 27th (7:00 p.m. kick off), Earlier that day, the Monarchs travel to Holy Trinity to decide third place with kick off scheduled for 1:00 p.m.


Tier Two Senior

Wednesday, October 12th

Pine Ridge 42, Richardson 6

Immediately following the opening kickoff, Jer-Ray Tomlinson was on the receiving end of a 53 yard pass for a touchdown to vault the 4-0 Pine Ridge Pumas into a lead that they would never relinquish against the Richardson Storm. Meschach Green and Imrad Mourad both found the house in the first and third quarters. Mourad’s pair of touchdowns were on interception returns (21 yards and 43 yards). Hunter Jennings with a 79 yard pass and run provided the Pumas with a 28-0 halftime lead. Paul Jenkins closed out the scoring with a 26 yard pass reception late in the fourth quarter to provide the Storm, who have only one win in five games, with their only scoring points of the day. Sean Smith posted converts on all six Puma touchdowns.

Thursday, October 13th

Sinclair 29, Bowmanville 0

The Celtics improved to 3-1 with a 29-0 victory over the Bowmanville Talons. Xavier Ellis paced the attack for the victors with a pair of touchdowns. Kyle Parker and Jonah Fullerton each recorded one major while place kicker Matt Gynn pitched in with a field goal and two converts. The loss dropped the Talons record to 0-3, which leaves them tied with Port Perry, whom they will.host next week.

Paul Dwyer 73, Notre Dame 6

The Paul Dwyer Saints rolled to their third consecutive win as they easily turned back the Cougars 73-6. The Saints were led by Jordan Duncan, who recorded five touchdowns, and Evan Jolicoeur, who picked off three Cougar passes and returned one of the interceptions for a touchdown. Closing out the scoring for the Saints were Jack Radford with three touchdowns as well as Bryce MacDonald and Chris Steenson, each with one. Aaron Champagne recorded seven converts. The Cougars, winless in three starts, were the first team to record scoring points against the Saints this year as Kouvhan Dakin tallied a touchdown.

Friday, October 14th

O’Neill 23, Port Perry 6

In a rematch of last year’s Tier Two senior championship, the O’Neill Red Hawks earned a measure of revenge as they turned back the Rebels 23-6. As was the case with last year’s title game (won by a score of 4-3 by the Rebels in overtime) this game was a defensive battle through the first 21 minutes of play with the only points being recorded by O’Neill’s Jeremy Alexander who split the uprights for three from 29 yards out. However, Trey Campbell on a 54 yard run with just over two minutes to the half widened the Red Hawk lead to nine. O’Neill would add 14 second half points on a 62 yard pass and run to Dylan Hall and a 9 yard carry by Matt Cox (Alexander added both converts). With just over a minute left, Kirk Bricknell on a four yard run provided the Rebels with their first scoring points of the season thereby ending a streak of 109 consecutive points allowed.

Uxbridge 25, Denis O’Connor 6

The Tigers kept pace with Pine Ridge atop the West Division standings with identical records of 4-0 following a 25-6 victory over the winless (in three) Chargers. Andrew Edwards and Lee Cowie accounted for twenty-two scoring points as Edwards recorded two touchdowns while Cowie produced a touchdown, three converts and a single on a missed field goal attempt. Chris Gladney with a punt single and a team awarded safety rounded out the Tiger scoring. Alex McIlmoyle replied for Denis O’Connor. Uxbridge will visit Ajax (3-1) on Wednesday and close the season out against Pine Ridge the following Tuesday in games that will determine the top three finishers in the West division. The Chargers meanwhile will meet Notre Dame on Thursday in what is a must win game for both schools, if they wish to keep their post season hopes alive.

Tier One Junior

Thursday, October 13th

Pickering 30, St. Mary 0

A Monarch fumble in the opening minute of play was scooped up by Kamau Farrell-Burke who rambled 40 yards to give the Trojans all the points that they would need to level their record at 1-1. Following the early touchdown, the two teams settled into a defensive battle as neither team was able to score before the half. With just over eight minutes remaining in the third quarter, the Trojans upped their lead to 14-0 as Patrick Henri fell on a teammates fumble in the end zone. Justice Johnson added his second convert. At this point, the Trojans took control of the game as Novell Provo would pick off an errant Monarch pass and return the ball 59 yards for a major. Johnson added a two point convert. Three minutes later, Provo scored again on a short four yard pass and Alex Hatziniko increase the lead to 30 with a two point convert. The game ended with ten minutes remaining after a consultation between the officials and the coaches.

Wilson 56, Holy Trinity 28

The Wilson Gators continued to demonstrate a potent offense as they would score seven consecutive touchdowns en route to a 56-28 victory. Unlike their season opener, where the Gator’s seven touchdown outburst produced a 48-0 half time lead, the junior Gators found themselves trailing as Wyatt Roeloffzen found the house from the one yard line in the opening minute and when Derek Cyr picked up the two point convert the Titans held an early eight point lead. The Gator onslaught started with 4:27 left in the opening quarter as Andrew Smith with both the touchdown and the two point convert leveled the score. Over the next thirty minutes, Jordan Grimes would record four touchdowns with 46, 29 and two 4 yard runs while John Stewart from one yard out and Smith with a 20 yard gallop vaulted the Gators to a 50-8 lead. The Titans were able to reduce the margin to 22, via touchdowns from Jon Codrington (45 yards), Roeloffzen (16 yards) and Cyr (56 yard pass). Adam Perroni with a 19 yard pass reception in the final minute closed out the scoring. In addition to Smith’s opening two point convert, Gators recorded two pointers from Adam Perroni and George Gonvsalves-Akers while Macolm Branton added two single point converts. Titan’s Dan Lay matched Branton with two converts. The win gives the Gators sole possession of first place at 2-0 record while the Titans are now tied with the Pickering Trojans for second place.

Tier Two Junior

Wednesday, October 12th

Richardson 27, Pine Ridge 20

Jerrol Cranston’s 25 yard pass reception in the final minute of the second quarter helped the Richardson Storm to overcome a 20-6 deficit en route to a 27-20 victory. Khosya Henderson had given the Pumas a lead of 12-0 as he posted the only two scoring plays of the opening quarter with runs of 9 and 13 yards. George Gougogianis cut the Puma lead in half at 12-6 with an 18 yard run early in the second quarter, however the Pumas replied with a 55 yard carry for six by Henderson with a two point convert from Oshay McLaughlin to widen the lead to 14. Justin Elwood’s 38 yard pass reception in the third quarter with Goudogianis adding the convert evened the game at 20 after three quarters. With 8:14 remaining, Goudogianis would put the Storm ahead for the first time in the game as he picked up his second major of the game with a 23 yard pass reception. His successful convert closed out the scoring.


Thursday, October 13th

Ajax 41, Dunbarton 0

The junior Rams rolled to their fourth consecutive victory as they shut out the Dunbarton Spartans 41-0. Matt McConnach led all scorers with three touchdowns. Marcus Simons contributed two and Brad Till had an eleven point day with a major and five converts. The Spartans, with three losses, are still looking for their first win of the season.

Friday, October 14th

Eastdale 27, St. Stephen 20

Eastdale and St. Stephen met in a battle of undefeated Tier Two junior teams. In a very entertaining game, the Eagles held off the Royals 27-20. Tyler Simpson staked the Eagles to a 7-0 opening quarter lead when he broke loose for a 35 yard touchdown run, which was converted by Ben Donnelly. In the second quarter, Riley Palmer picked up his fifteenth and sixteenth touchdowns of the season on a 9 yard run and an 80 yard punt return as Eastdale upped the margin to 19 with just over two minutes remaining to the half. The Royals, to their credit, immediately replied with two touchdowns to reduce the lead to 19-13 at the half. The first major was a 63 yard touchdown run by Mitchell Reece, which was followed by a twenty yard touchdown toss to Darby Bradley. Carmen Asselin added one convert for the Royals. The teams exchanged third quarter touchdowns with Cody Dale (16 yard passing play, two point convert by Donnelly) scoring for Eastdale and Darby Bradley (15 yard run, single point convert by Asselin) for the Royals. There was no scoring in the fourth quarter however the Royals made things interesting as they had possession in the Eagles territory when time ran out. With the win, Eastdale remains tied with Ajax for first place while the Royals are alone in third.

Port Perry 33, O’Neill 14

The third time was the charm for the Port Perry Rebels as they won their first game of the season turning back the O’Neill Red Hawks 33-14. For the third consecutive game, the Rebels found themselves ahead at the half (this time by a score of 13-6) however unlike their two previous matches, the Rebels would emerge with the victory. Trent Roy-Mugford and Isaiah Douglas each contributed two touchdowns while Tony Romagnuolo scored one. Converts were recorded by Braeden Vavssoir with one and Vernon Petty with two. Colin Flamminio and Dan McNeaney replied for O’Neill. Flamminio converted both touchdowns. With the win, Port Perry currently holds the tiebreaker advantage over O’Neill for the eighth and final playoff spot. Each school holds a .250 winning percentage however should they finish in a two way tie, the head to head victory would give the Rebels the nod.

Uxbridge 40, Bowmanville 28

In Uxbridge, Luke McMinn paced the Tiger offense with a four touchdown effort as the Tigers scored 40 points to defeat the Talons by 12. Both Chris Perry and Liam Knoll notched touchdowns as the Tigers improved to 2-1. Callen Hageman added four converts for the winners. The Talons have now lost two in a row after opening the season with back to back wins. Kyler Woodburn with a 14 point effort (two touchdows and a two point convert) accounted for half the Bovmanville scoring points. Kyle Kelly and Jack Gagnon each took the ball to house once and Chase Comeau added a two point conversion. Uxbridge is tied for fourth while the Talons reside in sixth place.
