Potential for something special

Ricardo Lubin

CEGEP linebacker recently joins OUA team’s 2014 class

There was only one CIS school that was the right choice for Ricardo Lubin.

The 5ā€™11, 210 pound outside linebacker from Laval, Quebec has committed to the Ottawa Gee-Gees for the 2014 OUA season.

ā€œThe first reason that made me commit to Ottawa was that once I was there, I felt like home,ā€ explained Lubin of his decision.Ā  ā€œI always wanted to play football in English away from my hometown (Laval) although I wanted to stay close enough to my family and Ottawa was the perfect match for me.ā€

ā€œThe second one is that the team atmosphere, even though I wasn’t with them, has been incredible for long time. Ā They’re like family – they train hard, have a good mindset, and are all brothers and that I think is the most important thing on a football team.ā€

Furthermore, the Laval linebacker was impressed by the strength of the coaching staff and looks forward to working with both Head Coach Jamie Barresi and Defensive Coordinator Devin Murphy. It also didnā€™t hurt that his best friends and teammates, Khadim Mbaye also committed to the Gee-Gees.

ā€œThe coaches had a huge impact on my decision with Head Coach (Jamie) Barresi who has a lot of experience and Defensive Coordinator Devin Murphy who showed me his defense in which I think I could fit perfectly,ā€ added Lubin.Ā  ā€œThe fact that one of my best friends, Khadim Mbaye is coming with me amplified my decision and made it official.ā€

ā€œI really think that this football program has something special and I firmly think that the coaches are right and the players too, now we just have to grind hard to get where we need to be. #Theydon’tknow!ā€

The Quebec linebacker recently completed his CEGEP career with Division 1 team, Montmorency Nomades.Ā  Previous to the Nomades, he played defense for the Laval Bulldogs.

Upon reflection of his commitment, there are some individuals Lubin credited with getting him to where he is today as a player.

ā€œSpecial thanks to my Head Coach Paul-Eddy St-Vilien that really helped me to understand the game,ā€ expressed Lubin. Ā ā€œThanks to all my teammates that made me live three great years and of course my best friend Chris Mulumba from University of Maine and Marc-Elie Jace (Montmorency) that kept pushing me and being there for me.ā€
