Macéo Beard-Aigret: Part of the French Connection ready for the CFL

The Global Combine 2022 was held during the week-end of March 26 and 27, in Toronto. It had not taken place during the last two years, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, everybody in the American football industry was happy to finally get together again. One of them was Macéo Beard-Aigret, a French prospect, who is ready and eager to enter into the professional world of the CFL.

The Global Combine 2022 featured 100 Players

A combine is always something fun to be part of. Every year, it starts with the NFL launching the show. This year, its combine week was held from February 28 through March 6th. The most promising players in North America and around the world would all like to be recruited by an NFL team. It is quite normal, since this is the most important sports league worldwide, a long way ahead of the MLB (Major League of Baseball), which comes in second. The prospects imagine being under the spotlight, for all the world to see, and for their name to appear on American football betting sites. But most of them won’t make it there. And so, their second choice is the CFL. The 100 players that made it to Toronto for the combine week-end certainly didn’t look like they were disappointed to be there.

The French Connection

Macéo Beard-Aigret is part of three players that found their way to the combine, hoping to play in America, in the seasons to come. As of now, there are already ten French players inside the CFL, and they are often referred to as the French Squad. He was eager to start the activities, but he did take on interviews before getting on the field. Here is what you need to know about Macéo.

At 21 years old, he plays the position of safety. He started first playing American football at the Pôle France in Bordeaux, back in 2016. After making the France U19 team in 2017, he then continued his training in America, by moving to Thetford, where he joined the CEGEP team, in 2018. His last U19 campaigns were held in Bologna, Italy, and he also represented the French Senior team during the 2019 campaign, where he got to play against the Czech Republic and Serbia, his team winning both games.

To him, the combine was a goal he had to achieve. He had already participated in a CFL event, held in Paris, France, back in January 2020, in pre-pandemic times. He made it to the final pre-draft tests being held in Toronto and featuring the most promising young players from around the world. Coming out of a strong season, he also benefited from private training in Bordeaux (France), where he got to use the facilities, including the weight rooms and athletics tracks.

To be invited by the CFL, is a great honour for Macéo, who said it himself. He certainly did everything he could to represent France proudly and to please his family with his performance, during the combine. Now, let’s wait and see if it will translate into a job in one of the CFL teams, this summer.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
