Manitoba recruit looks ‘forward to progressing’ with Huskies

Steinbach linebacker joins CUWAA team’s 2015 class.

Chris Brown-Fillion is moving to another Prairie province to continue begin his CIS career.

Recently, the 6ā€™0, 220 pound linebacker from Steinbach, Manitoba committed to the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.Ā  Filion-Brown will join the team for the 2015 CWUAA season.

ā€œSome factors that played into why I committed was because University of Saskatchewan is not only one of the nicest schools I visited, but also their football and academic programs are some of the best in the country,ā€ explained Brown-Fillion, who will be studying kinesiology at University of Saskatchewan.Ā  ā€œI had to weigh my options, and I felt that University of Saskatchewan was the best option and opportunity for me.ā€

I feel as if I can be a big contributor as soon as the season starts. The attitude with the players on and off the field is fantastic.Ā  Also, the coaches also seem to all be on the same page, they communicate very well and that’s a huge stepping stone to building a successful and championship worthy football program. I love how much the community gets involved with the team and how much the team means to the community. I look forward to progressing as a player and student with the University of Saskatchewan.ā€

Brown-Fillion has completed a stint with Winnipeg Rifles of the Prairie Football Conference (PFC) in the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL). This past season, the linebacker registered 35 tackles, recorded four sacks, two pass knock downs and a forced fumble. During his time with the Rifles, he received several honours including PFC Rookie of the Year, PFC Rookie All-Star and Rifles Rookie Defensive Player of the Year.

Previous to the Rifles, Brown-FillionĀ suited up for the Steinbach Sabres of the Winnipeg High School Football League (WHSFL).
