Manitoba recruit makes Carleton landing

Winnipeg DE newest recruit to join OUA team’s 2015 class

Carleton Ravens have found more success in their Prairie recruitment efforts.

The team has announced the addition of Machuor Akau to their program.  The 6’2, 227 pound defensive end from Winnipeg, Manitoba will join the team for the 2015 OUA season.

Akau guided the Oak Park Raiders of the Winnipeg High School Football League (WHSFL) to the provincial ‘AAA’ Championship this past November. In 2014, he registered 45 tackles and recorded four sacks in six games despite missing the rest of the season and the majority of playoffs due to injury.

With his commitment, he continues the Manitoba pipeline to Carleton.  Linebacker Leon Cenerini, who just completed his second season with the Ravens, is a native of La Salle.

“We are excited to have Machuor join the Ravens program,” commented Ravens Defensive Coordinator Ryan Bechmanis.  “He comes from a great football program at Oak Park High School and trains with some of the best at Recruit Ready in Winnipeg. “

“He is an explosive player and we cannot wait to work with him over his CIS career.”

Akau’s commitment is the culmination of a long standing relationship with the team which began last year.

“I have been in contact with Carleton since summer going into my senior year so I have had a substantial amount of time to make my decision,” recalled the Manitoba defensive end.  “Carleton is a very young team so I feel it will put me into the right environment to succeed and flourish with the rest of the players.”

“Coach Bechmanis made a trip to my school to enlighten me more about the program which really showed that he cared about his players, and I witnessed that first hand when I was on my visit.”

Ultimately, Akau is looking forward to commencing his career in the Nation’s Capital.

“I am ready to begin my university studies and develop my football skills under a tremendous staff that truly cares,” expressed Akau.  “I’m also very excited to live in a new province; it’ll be a great opportunity to live in another city other than my hometown Winnipeg!”
