Marauders add former Laurier coach

McMaster Head Coach Stefan Ptaszek has bolstered his Marauder staff with the hiring of former Wilfrid Laurier Coach Gary Jeffries, who will assume the position of Special Teams Coordinator.

A four-time OUA and one-time CIS Coach of the Year, Jeffries has spent his entire coaching career at Laurier, being hired as linebackers coach in 1972.Β  He spent the last 10 years as the head coach of the Golden Hawk football program and guided the team to a Vanier Cup victory in 2005.

Serving as a member of Jeffries’ staff on that championship team was Ptaszek, who filled the role of Offensive Coordinator, before being hired by McMaster to take over the Marauder program.

Coach Jeffries departed Laurier shortly after the conclusion of the 2012 season.Β Β  He re-unites with Coach Ptaszek, who has been a longtime close friend and colleague.

β€œI am very excited to work with Coach Jeffries again,” said Ptaszek, about the reunion with his former mentor. β€œI am very confident that our student-athletes and staff will benefit from his experience, energy, and passion for OUA football.Β  There is no one who cares more about the student-athletes in the OUA.”
