Marauders gain size on offense with new commit

McMaster adds 6’6, 270lbs giant to their 2017 class.

Cameron Smith, an offensive lineman from the Royal Imperial Collegiate of Canada, is ready to take his new city by storm after signing with the McMaster Marauders.

It was Hamilton, Ontario, a city of steel and high rises, that stole Smith’s heart first. “I chose to commit to McMaster because I really like the city of Hamilton. I also really enjoyed the small and scenic campus and all of the academic support that McMaster provides to its student athletes,” he said.

The future social science student was also impressed with McMaster’s academics and the Marauders in general. “They have a very successful football program where I feel I could really develop and excel as a player,” Smith said.

He added that the coaching staff was one of the main reasons why he chose to commit to the maroon and grey. “They are all very knowledgeable and experienced. They have lead the team to several very successful seasons in recent years and have sent many players to the CFL,” he said.

In his 12-year career, the towering 6’6, 270lbs athlete has suited up as a centre, a guard and a tackle. He spent time playing with the London Junior Mustangs (London Minor Football League) in his hometown of London, Ontario. He hit the gridiron with the Regina Mundi Catholic College Titans (Thames Valley Regional Athletics) during high school before moving to St. Catharines to attend RICC, a football prep school. He was named the lineman of the year in his last year with the Titans.

Smith will be looking to bring his prowess to the Marauders. He said, “I’m very excited about the opportunity to play at McMaster University and I’m grateful for the coaches believing in me as a player.”
