Marauders go over Wildcats in competitive game

The Miller Mauraders took and the Johnson Wildcats on Thursday September 8, 2011 at Mosaic Stadium in Regina, Sask. This game was part of the second week of the Regina High School Athletics 3A football division.

The first half was a tight, back and forth affair. Miller was first on the scoreboard after a punt was kicked out of the Johnson end soon in the first quarter Miller extended their lead after safety.

The major turning point in the first half came early in the second quarter when Wildcat Colton Lee intercepted a pass from Miller quarterback Paul Vogelsang. Lee fumbled the football when he was tackled, but fellow Wildcat Blake Schindell recovered the ball. Johnson was able to get on the scoreboard in the second quarter courtesy of a Daniel Ross touchdown. Johnson would score a field goal late in the half to claim a lead of 10-3 after two quarters.

Miller came out fast and hard in the third quarter, especially number 35 Brandon Desnomie. Desnomie, along with Carlos Martinez, was already a strong force on defense in the first half, and Desnomie was like a freight train as a fullback in the second half. Desnomie was a major factor in several strong drives, and scored three touchdowns. Volgelsang also ran in a touchdown for Miller during the second half.

Johnson ran into some difficulties offensively and deffensivly in the second half. The Miller offense really came together, as the Wildcats had a very hard time stopping their advances. The Wildcats were able to score only one touchdown in the second half. Miller won the game 31-17.

In other 3A action Notre Dame defeated O’Neil 28-21, Yorkton defeated Martin 41-0, and Luther defeated Weyburn 27-12.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
