Marauders head to Kingston for top ten clash with Queen’s

The OUA schedule-maker certainly lucked out with a marquee match-up in Week-Two, as the 6th-ranked McMaster Marauders head to Kingston for a Labour Day contest with the Queen’s Gaels, ranked No. 2 in the first CIS top-ten of the season.

Both McMaster and Queen’s won their OUA openers last week, with Queen’s pounding York 52-1 and the Marauders beating Ottawa 51-24.

With four OUA teams currently ranked in the top-seven nationally, these games between ranked opponents will be vital in determining final standings and playoff positioning later in the year.

Both teams feature veteran rosters with each side having its share of big play-makers. After the first week of action, McMaster’s Scott Martin was honoured as the OUA and CIS Defensive Player of the Week, registering 12 solo tackles against Ottawa, while Queen’s receiver Giovanni Aprile was named top Special Teams Player of the Week, after scoring four touchdowns versus York, including a 115-yard return of a missed field goal for a major score.

McMaster Head Coach Stefan Ptaszek is also pleased to announce that linebacker coach Tom Pain has accepted some new duties and will serve as the assistant Defensive Coordinator, working with Kevin Eiben. “Tom is one of our most talented and committed alumni, supporters and coaches,” said Ptaszek on the appointment. “We are very fortunate that he has accepted this expended role.”

“I enjoy learning and want to make sure our players are looked after,” said Pain, who enters his fifth season on the Marauder staff. “Coach Eiben has years of pro football knowledge and that will make us better. My strength and conditioning role will allow me to work more with the players to make them better.”

The McMaster at Queen’s game will be telecast on Hamilton’s Cable 14 on a delayed basis at 8 p.m. on Monday, September 2nd.
