Marauders secure homefield in quarterfinals with win at Carleton

Needing to win by 14 to guarantee a home playoff game, the McMaster football team beat the Carleton Ravens 45-3 to end the 2013 regular season with a 5 and 3 record, securing fourth place in the league standings. McMaster will now host the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday, October 26th at 1-pm at Ron Joyce Stadium.

BOXSCORE

With the running game looking better weekly, Kasean Davis staked the Marauders to an early lead with two first-quarter touchdowns. Davis finished the day with 105 yards rushing on 16 carries as McMaster rushed for a total of 236 yards.

The Maroon continued to build the lead through the first-half with Declan Cross adding a six yard TD run and Tyler Crapigna nailing two field goals. At intermission, McMaster was in control 31-0.

Second-half touchdowns from Danny Vandervoort, on a 12-yard reception and a one-yard plunge from Marshall Ferguson completed the McMaster scoring. Ferguson finished 21 of 35 for 210 yards with the one TD toss, but did throw four interceptions.

The Marauder defense had a solid effort against the youthful Ravens, limiting them to 250 yards of net offense and intercepting five picks of their own. Mike Daly and Zack Ishmael each snared two, while Steve Ventresca grabbed his fourth of the year.

The Marauders will now prepare to face an Ottawa team that is vastly different than the one that came to Hamilton on August 25, with McMaster winning 51-24.
