Marshall named Queen’s Defensive Coordinator for 2014 season

KINGSTON  – Queen’s Athletics & Recreation is proud to announce that Greg Marshall will serve as the Gaels defensive coordinator for the 2014 season.

Marshall, who most recently served as the defensive coordinator for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League (CFL), played nine seasons as a defensive lineman with the Ottawa Rough Riders. He was drafted in the 7th round of the 1978 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles after playing defensive tackle with Oregon State.

Greg has an extensive coaching career in the CFL in various defensive roles since starting out in 1994. He spent time with Saskatchewan, Edmonton, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Hamilton. Marshall got his first head coaching job with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2011.

“We’re thrilled to have a CFL coach of many years, Marshall, provide the Gaels with a solid foundation for our defensive core focusing on learning and development of student-athletes,” said head coach Pat Sheahan.

With the move Marshall, who served as a guest coach during the Gaels spring camp earlier this year, replaces longtime defensive coordinator Pat Tracey who took a position with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League earlier this year.

The Gaels are set to open training camp on August 17th before welcoming the Concordia Stingers for an exhibition tilt on August 24.

The Queen’s football Gaels begin their regular season on the road when they take on the Windsor Lancers on Monday September 1, 2014. The Gaels then open up their home schedule on Saturday September 6th against the Ottawa Gee-Gees at 1:00 p.m. at Richardson Stadium.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
