Redmed add a player from Laval to their 2017 commitment class.
The city of Montréal in la belle province will be home to Xavier Angers-Gauthier, a defensive back from Cégep Vieux-Montréal, for another four years after the young recruit committed to the McGill Redmen.
Angers-Gauthier currently plays with the Vieux-Montréal Spartiates, a Division 1 Cégep from the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec. He was a former member of the Collège Laval Maraudeurs (high school, RSEQ) and in 2014, he played with the Les Loups de l’École Secondaire Curé-Antoine-Labelle, a Division 1 high school in the RSEQ.
Angers-Gauthier has played football since the age of nine, where he started his career with the Laval-East Broncos. Due to insufficient players, the Broncos became a part of the Laval-East Dragons three years into his career.
In 2013, he was a member of Team Quebec. In the same year, he was named as a defensive all-star and received an academic award for excellence during his time with the Maraudeurs. The defensive back, who mainly plays free safety or strong safety, is 5’11, 185 lbs and can run the 40-yard dash in 4.64 seconds.
On Facebook, Ron Hilaire, the head coach of the Redmen, welcomed the young player with some words of praise. He posted this message: “Very happy to have this young man join our team! Very talented playmaker with great instincts! Have a great rest of season with Vieux Montreal. See you in 2017.”
