McGill To Host Alouettes Classic All-Star Game today

MONTREAL — Over 100 high school football players will take part in the 27th edition of the Alouettes Classic at Percival Molson Stadium on Friday, Apr. 29 at 7 p.m. Admission is free of charge.

A Quebec tradition since 1985, the Ligue scolaire de football de Montreal, a Montreal-area high school football league, gathers its best players each spring for the annual showcase.

Coaching the teams this year will be Montreal Carabins’ head coach Danny Maciocia, along with Concordia Stingers’ head coach Gerry McGrath, a former Alouettes kicker.

Sonny Wolfe, head coach of the McGill Redmen, will also be on board to get the players ready for what should be a great football game.

The players from each team were selected by coaches and league directors based on their performances this season both on the field and in the classroom. In preparation for the game, the players will practice Monday through Thursday, from Apr. 25 to Apr. 28 at Percival Molson Stadium from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

High school cheerleaders from the RSEQ-Montreal will step on the field during halftime to demonstrate jumps and acrobatic stunts.

One of the largest high school football leagues in Quebec, the Ligue scolaire de football de Montreal is made up of 35 teams, 100 coaches and more than 1,500 players. Students playing in the Alouettes Classic originate from 19 public and private high schools from the Montreal Metropolitan Region.

The Alouettes, in conjuction with McGill Athletics & Recreation, are proud to continue their mission in the local community and are behind all the student athletes who will represent their schools at the 27th annual Alouettes Classic.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
