Ultimately, the Montreal, Quebec campus provided an avenue for him to return back to pursuing his academic pursuits in an English institution. Furthermore, the reputation of the school was an added bonus.

“I committed to McGill because I have studied all my life in an English school and having to go through the transition from English to French when I decided to go to Édouard-Montpetit,” elaborated De Villers-Riel.  “It was very difficult and I wanted to go back in English.”

“The education at McGill is considered very prestigious and it is a chance in a lifetime to study in one of the best universities in the world.”

Equally, new Redmen Head Coach Ron Hilaire’s coaching philosophy was a decisive factor for the defensive back.

“Head Coach Ron Hilaire and his coaching staff was a big influence in my decision,” expressed De Villiers-Riel.  “The mentality that he wants to bring to the team and the attitude of “if you want it, you will have to work for it and earn it” fits perfectly with my personal values.”

“I feel that in their hands I will have all the tools and all the help I need to become the best I can be and to help the program as much as I can.”
