McMaster honours high school coach of year, Notre Dame’s Chad Wozney

Continuing the tradition of honouring outstanding leadership and contributions to the development of high school football in the greater Hamilton area, the McMaster University Football Program is proud to announce that Chad Wozney from Burlington Notre Dame has been selected the 2011 High School Coach of the Year, presented by T.Litzen Sports Ltd.

Since entering the teaching profession 11 years ago, Wozney has been involved with high school football and has been a key figure in the Notre Dame Fighting Irish becoming one of the dominant secondary school football programs in Ontario.

During his tenure, Coach Wozney has guided the Irish to consecutive Golden Horseshoe Bowl Championships in 2009 and 2010. His Notre Dame team has played in the last six Halton region league finals, winning three championship titles, and over the last three years, his teams have compiled a record of 35 wins and one loss.

Repeatedly cited by peers and players for outstanding leadership, mentorship, and dedication to his sport, Coach Wozney has seen over 20 graduates go on to play at the Canadian Interuniversity Sport level. Included among those Notre Dame Grads that have moved forward are current McMaster Marauders Stephen Dennis and Andrew Surya, while two more Irish players, Max Mezzabotta and Chris Pezzetta, have committed to attend McMaster this September.

The Coach of the Year award will be presented at the McMaster Football Gala Dinner on April 28, 2011. Along with the award, Coach Wozney will be presented with a $1,000.00 voucher from T.Litzen Sports Ltd. of Dundas, to be used for the purchase of equipment for the Notre Dame football program.

Coach of the Year candidates are nominated from the regions of Hamilton, Halton, Niagara, and Haldimand, and selection is based on long-term service to high school football, positive impact made on players, and commitment to excellence on and off the field.
