McMaster’s D’Aguilar signs with CFL’s Calgary Stampeders

After exploring options from south of the border, McMaster’s standout defensive lineman Ben D’Aguilar has decided to continue his career in the Canadian Football League.

The CFL’s Calgary Stampeders announced the signing of D’Aguilar – who they selected 13th overall in the 2013 CFL Draft on May 6 – along with three other draft picks on May 21.

The 2012 recipient of the J.P. Metras Trophy, awarded to the outstanding down lineman in CIS football, D’Aguilar set a CIS single-season record after totalling 12.5 quarterback sacks over the course of the conference schedule. His exceptional play earned D’Aguilar recognition as a First-Team OUA All-Star and First-Team All-Canadian.

A Hamilton native, the Marauder lineman had attracted considerable attention from National Football League teams in recent months, and took part in the NFL’s Super Regional Combine on April 7 after impressing scouts at the regional level. His performance at that showcase spurred an invitation to the rookie camps of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Jets earlier in May.
