McMaster’s Shortill selected 13th overall by Alouettes in CFL Draft

After spending the entire year among the Canadian Football League’s top prospects, McMaster linebacker Nick Shortill saw himself selected in the second round of Tuesday’s CFL Draft. Shortill was the first linebacker to be chosen on the night, being selected by the Montreal Alouettes with the 13th pick.

Having been ranked as high as 11th in the CFL Scouting Bureau’s Prospect List, Shortill’s selection was no surprise in the second round. He was the third player chosen by the Alouettes, who acquired a second pick in the opening round through a trade with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats earlier on Tuesday.

The fourth-year Marauder enjoyed an exceptional season in 2014, leading his team far and away with 29 solo tackles in seven regular season games, as well as an interception and five tackles for a loss. He was rewarded with the OUA’s President’s Trophy as Stand-up Defensive Player of the Year.
