A group of 29 officials – including two women – from 12 countries and four continents has been selected to officiate at the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Senior World Championship in Austria.
The group will be split into four crews of officials plus one alternate. Two crews will be in Innsbruck and two in Graz and all will move on to Vienna for the final games. Masaru Azuma of Japan will serve as a supervisor of officials for the tournament.
Among selected to the officiating group is BCS National Championship game and veteran college referee BILL LeMONNIER who has an impressive list of countries where he has taken charge of international American football games. He has regularly been called upon by the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) to officiate games in Australia, Japan, Mexico and Panama and has held officiating clinics in Europe.
For the first time in IFAF Senior World Championship history, two female officials have been selected – Katarina Milojkovic of Serbia and Austrian Martina Konig. Both previously worked the first-ever IFAF Women’s World Championship last summer in Sweden.
This will be the third consecutive IFAF tackle football world championship where Canadian officials will be represented as Barcaly Easton of Ottawa, ON and Shawn Kerr, Calgary, AB work the Senior World Championship. Canadian officials were also represented at the 2009 IFAF Junior World Championship and the 2010 IFAF Women’s World Championship.
Easton is entering his 19th year as an official, having worked an estimated 1,080 games, including numerous local Ottawa high school and minor playoff games, the 100th Yates Cup, the CJFL semi-final, both Senior and Junior OVFL finals, an OFSAA Bowl game and a total of seven CFL games. Kerr has served as an official for 20 years and has been officiating Canadian university football for the past six seasons. He also has worked the CJFL for the past ten seasons and spent four seasons officiating in the CFL.
