Metro wins wild one in OVFL Varsity action

Great plays, Great players, back and forth action, dramatic turns of events. The game between Metro Wildcats and the visiting Huronia Stallions had it all. The Wildcats began the game with 15 unanswered points, but in the second quarter the visitors from Barrie scored 2 touchdowns to make the halftime score 15 to 14.

The second half saw the same script but this time with the Stallions taking a lead into the fourth quarter. With 6 minutes to play and the Stallions leading 31 to 21, Huronia set up to punt the football from their own 30 yard line. The Wildcats partially blocked the punt and after the no yards penalty was assessed Metro took possession of the football deep in Huronia territory. Next play #18, Brandon Williams, scored his third pass receiving touchdown of the game (and garnered Offensive Player of the game). Score is 31 to 28 Huronia with 5:48 remaining…and here comes the rain.

At 2:36, Justin Babin made a spectacular 54 yard catch and run down to the Huronia 12 yard line. Three plays later the Wildcats were first and goal from the one yard line. After a first play incompletion and offside penalty by the Stallions, Metro handed the ball to #20, Kyle Ludlow, who pounded the ball in from the one yard line (it was Kyle’s 2nd TD…his first was a pass reception). The ensuing extra point snap was mishandled but alertly picked up and thrown into the end zone to #28, Deante O’Connor for the 2 point convert.

Huronia did have a chance, after starting with the ball on their own 50 yard line with 1:12 remaining. They drove the ball to the Metro 30 yard line, but on the last play of the game was intercepted in the end zone by #2, TJ Chase-Dunawa to the delight of the home crowd.
