Olds defensive back commits to CWUAA team’s 2014 class.

One Alberta standout is moving from a small town to a major city to commence his CIS career.

Quade Smith is the newest Alberta Golden Bear.  The 5’11, 200 pound defensive back (halfback/safety) from Olds, Alberta committed to the CWUAA school because he was impressed with what he saw from the football program.

“I chose to commit to the University of Alberta because I have attended many camps over the years and enjoy the way the program is run,” explained Smith of his decision.  “The goals that Coach Chris Morris has set forward for the team in the upcoming years also intrigued me and helped sway me towards the University of Alberta.”

Moreover, academics played a role in the defensive back’s decision.

“I was similarly excited about the academic programs offered as schooling is extremely important to me,” added Smith.  “I’m looking into the Faculty of Science for Chemistry.”

Recently, Smith completed his high school career with Old Spartans of the Alberta Schools Athletic Association (ASAA).  In eight exhibition games with the Spartans in 2013, the Alberta defensive standout caught 10 interceptions, returned two interceptions for touchdowns, four kick returns and three punt returns.

Other teams that Smith has previously suited up for include Prairie Fire of the Calgary Area Midget Football Association (CAMFA), Old Bulldogs (bantam) and Olds Huskies (peewee).
