MFL: Moncton loses championship for 1st time in 5 years

The Dartmouth Knights are the new Maritime Football League champions after winning 14 to 13 over the Moncton Mustangs. Despite being outgained 342 to 124 the Knights found a way to win. It is the first time in the league’s 10-year history that a team from outside New Brunswick has won.

Moncton took a 7-0 lead on a 3-yard Steve Cormier touchdown run in the first quarter. Dartmouth scored a touchdown to tie the game on a 10 yard touchdown pass from Micah Brown to Grant Myles.

Dartmouth’s defense came up big with a red zone interception to end the half and another one to start the second half. Darthmouth went up 14 to 7 on another Brown to Myers TD pass. Moncton pulled to within one point on Cormier’s 2nd touchdown of the game but the extra point was blocked.

Moncton 342 yards offense – 90 passing 252 rushing (Cormier – 233)

Dartmouth 124 yards offense – 71 passing 53 rushing

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
