Montréal Carabins offer commit family, opportunity

Montréal adds a Québec commit to their Class of 2018.

The University of Montréal Carabins have had Simon Laurin, a tackle from Cégep Garneau, on their radar for quite some time now, and it seems that Laurin was keeping an eye on his future school as well.

Thinking of a career post-football, Laurin is interested in taking business at the HEC Montréal Business School. “Attending the University of Montréal meant attending one of the best francophone business schools. Earning a degree at the HEC isn’t only a diploma, it’s developing a new network with the future CEOs of Montréal companies,” Laurin said.

Football, however, was still on his mind. “Having a chance to be part of one of the best teams in U Sports and attending the HEC was the best I could wish for,” he said. “Also, I really like where the school is. It’s a nice and calm neighbourhood, which I think is better for the success of a student-athlete.”

Originally from Saint-Jérôme, Québec, Laurin won’t have far to travel into Montréal. The 6’3, 265lbs lineman said he was first reached out to by the Carabins’ offensive line coach, Mathieu Pronovost. “He was the first U Sports coach to talk to me. For me, that means a lot. It meant that he had a plan in mind for my development for a long time,” Laurin added.

Already feeling wanted by the Carabins, Laurin knows he will feel at home with the team. “The coaching staff really insist on the fact that the team is a family where every member will be treated equally,” he said.

Laurin spent his cégep career with Les Élans du Cégep Garneau (RSEQ Division 1). He also played with Les Wildcats de Laurentides-Lanaudiere. He has participated in the Bruno Heppell Football Camp where he was named the offensive line MVP. In 2015, he won gold with Team Québec at the Football Canada Cup.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
