Montreal – The Carabins football team of the University of Montreal jumps on the field for the first time this year today.
The team’s spring camp will be held from March 4th to 8th at the Stade Antony-Carola College Saint-Jean-Vianney Montreal. This is an opportunity for many newcomers to make a good first impression.
Head coach Danny Maciocia expects that all players will benefit from this training camp and demonstrate that they can help the team next season.
“There will be competition at every position,” he said. “There are several positions available and we urge all players to show the best of themselves.”
In particular, the position of starting quarterback is left vacant following the end of the academic career of Alexandre Nadeau-Piuze, who has filled that role in the last three seasons. Also, the departure of Jonathan Beaulieu-Richard FrΓ©chette and Olivier Lemire, left a space among the linebackers. There are also vacancies on the offensive line as Alexis Rousseau-Saine and Alexis Stropiano have also completed their academic careers.
To address these departures and add depth, recruitment was abundant among the representatives of the University of Montreal since the end of last season last November.Β Talented players were added to all positions. They now have to integrate Maciocia’s plan.
“We will benefit from the camp to assess our world as we should,” said the Carabins head coach, who is in his third spring camp with the team. “We have a great group of veterans and we want to know our new players.”
“On their end, they can learn new game systems.Β It will give us a better idea to help us prepare the training camp in August.”
There is also the novelty of Maciocia’s men who do not wear shoulder pads. The new coaches of the Blues, Danny Desriveaux, Fabrice Lemire-Frechette and Raymond, will be making this one of first steps in their new roles. Meanwhile, Maciocia will take the first steps in his new role as defensive coordinator following the departure of Noel Thorpe at the Montreal Alouettes.
“We often talk about synchronization among players, but we also have to find it among our coaches,” said Maciocia. “There have been some changes in personnel, and for us, this is the first opportunity to work together on the field.”
