Morencie adds Joe D’Amore to coaching staff for 2010 season


Mike Morencie, Head Coach of the Lancer Football program is pleased to announce the hiring of Joe D’Amore as an assistant coach for the upcoming season.

A native of Windsor, Ontario and a former Lancer Football standout, D’Amore will join the Lancer staff, efffective immediately.

“We are really excited to have Joe on board as part of our coaching staff,” commented Morencie. “In addition to his outstanding player career, he has developed into a bright young coach with a wide area of expertise.”

Most recently, D’Amore has served as the Offensive Coordinator for the Essex Ravens in the Ontario Varsity Football League since 2007. With the Ravens, he has also worked as a Special Teams Coordinator and the Defensive Backs coach.

No stranger to local high school football, Joe was the Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the Villanova Wildcats this past year. Prior to that, he was the Head Coach for two years with the Sandwich High School Sabres.

“I am thrilled to join Coach Morencie and the Lancer Football program for the upcoming season,” added D’Amore. “We have a dynamic group of players and I am looking forward to the challenge of helping them succeed this year.”

D’Amore is best known from his playing days at the University of Windsor. He played for the Lancers from 1996-2000 as a wide receiver and started all 40 games of his career. He was also the team captain for the Lancers for three seasons.

Following his playing career, Joe moved on to play professional football in the Arena Football League (AFL2) with the Carolina Rhinos. He also played two seasons with the Fursty Razorbacks in the German Football League in Munich, Germany.

He broke into the coaching ranks in 2000 when he worked as a Graduate Assistant under Coach Morencie with the Lancer Football program.

Following that experience, he worked with the AKO Fratmen for one season as their Special Teams Coordinator.
