For those of you who might not know, Bill PrestΒ was a long-standing member of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC) as an executive, and as a member of the Jr. Ontario Rugby Football Union (ORFU) for over 40 years, where he served as Register, Secretary Treasurer, and was the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) East Chairman for a few years back in the 1970βs.Β Heβs considered as a Life Member of the CJFL and an Ed Henick Award winner. He joined the Jr. ORFU in 1961, until he retired in 2003 from the OFC. Very much respected throughout the CJFL,Β Bill worked tirelessly for the OFC and for football in general for a very long time. It is for this reason that Billβs name is now attached to the Community Service Award.
For the second year in a row now, Johnny Muresan (Sandwich Secondary School) from the Windsor AKO Fratmen has been named as the Bill Prest Community ServiceΒ Award winner β the first player to ever accomplish such a feat.Β In total, Muresan became the fifth Fratmen to ever win this award.
Johnny Muresan is heavily involved in the Windsor/Essex community. The number of his volunteer activities areΒ countless. They include: the βBreakoutβ campaign, which helps inner city youth from the ages of 5-18, as well as, the βBreakout BagsβΒ campaign, which distributes toys, hats, gloves, and winter coats to Windsor children in need.
Heβs heavily involvedΒ in βOperation Christmas Childβ with his church, which is a movement that sends shoeboxes filled withΒ tooth brushes, toiletries, toys, books, crayons, and pencils to children living in third world countries. Last yearΒ alone, Johnnyβs church sent over 2000 boxes overseas.
Heβs also involved with a lot of other activities on top ofΒ his other daily commitments with the Fratmen and his schooling. Heβs able to make an impact on the world, both near and far, and heβsΒ shown the ability to reach out to those in need and make their lives better in the process.
The Fratmen footballΒ family is very proud of their players when it comes to on-field accomplishments, but theyβre even more proud of what a Β player like Johhny Muresan does in his time when heβs off theΒ field.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
