Mustangs sweep OUA football player of the week honours

HAMILTON, Ont. – The following student-athletes have been named OUA Football Players of the Week for the period ending September 8, 2013.
OFFENCE: Will Finch, Western Mustangs, Quarterback

Second-year quarterback Will Finch had an outstanding day in front of his hometown crowd, leading the Mustangs to a 58-15 win over McMaster on Saturday. The Burlington native threw for 449 yards and five touchdowns while completing 26 of 35 passes (74.2%). Saturday’s win marked the second consecutive game that Finch threw for over 400 yards. The social science major has thrown for over 300 yards in each of the Mustangs first three games this season.

DEFENCE: Pawel Kruba, Western Mustangs, Linebacker

Pawel Kruba was a force for the No. 4 Western Mustangs on Saturday afternoon, as Western rolled over the No. 6 McMaster Marauders 58-15. Kruba led all players with a game-high nine tackles and recorded two interceptions in the dominant win. The fifth-year linebacker from Windsor, Ont. was a key factor in handing McMaster their first home loss since September 10, 2011.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Lirim Hajrullahu, Western Mustangs, KickerΒ 

Western Mustangs kicker Lirim Hajrullahu had a stellar game against the McMaster Marauders on Saturday, racking up 22 points en route to the 58-15 win. The St. Catharines native had his best game of the 2013 season, going 5-6 on field goals, nailing a 42-yarder while adding six extra points and a single. Hajrullahu has eight field goals this season and 63 for his career.
