“National Invitational Combine” a first year success

March 13, 2010

The “National Invitational Combine” is a camp for players identified as potential CFL prospects who were not invited to this year’s CFL evaluation camp. The camp was designed to give an opportunity to Canadian CIS & NCAA stars to show off their testing and one on one playing abilities to the eight CFL teams.

The morning consisted of testing drills such as Bench Press and other body measurements. The afternoon consisted of 40 yard dash, verticle and shuttle test. Finally, each group finished the day in one on one drills versus the appropriate positional group.

CFL excecutives Mark Cohon, Kevin McDonald, and Tom Higgins were in attendence and were impressed with what they saw. Both CFL teams and executive members look forward to seeing how they can further incorporate the “National Combine” with their ‘e-camp’ weekend.

One of the most impressive positional groups were the young Canadian QBs. Bradley Sinopoli of uOttawa (2011), Jean-Philippe Shoiry of Sherbrooke, and Montreal Carabins Marc-Olivier Brouillette. Former CFL Head Coach and current CIS coach Joe Poapoa remarked that all three had a chance to play at the next level. He was very impressed with they way they threw all the different routes QBs have to throw.

Look for the “National Combine” to be a permanent fixture in the CFL talent evaluation landscape.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
