NB: Crusaders look to stay Perfect in New Brunswick high school playoffs. (10-man)

The Kennebecasis Valley Crusaders football team has been enjoying lots of success in the last few season’s , after some very dark moments in the 2007 and 2008 , many of new brunswick’s football fans feared that football at Kennebecasis Valley High was nearing it’s end. In 2007 , the team withdrew from regular season play after week 2 , then in 2008 , the crusaders were back but went winless and failed to make the post season.

In 2009 ,the turn around began, the Crusaders showed many good things and lots of promise as the team did go 3-4 and went on to lose in the First round of the playoffs to the 4th seed Mathieu-Martin Matadors 14-13. The Crusaders offence had scored 230 points , good enough for second highest in the entire 10 man circuit . This was a glimpse of things to come for the Crusaders program.

in 2010 , the Crusaders stormed through the regular season with a 6-1 record , they received a bye to the semi final where they met the 2009 defending champions Sussex Sonics , the Crusaders went on to win the game 28-19 and then went on to win the Nick Desilets Memorial Trophy with a 39-13 win over their rivals Rothesay High Redhawks.

This season , the Crusaders have picked up where they left off in 2010. Led by All-star Running back Quentin Chown , the team has outscored their opponents 338-102 in the regular season. They have often seemed “Unstoppable” , with having the league’s top offence and the league’s 2nd best defence. After beating Hampton High last week 58-28 ,The Crusaders are looking to play for their 4th crown in the program’s existence.

On Friday night , coach Hopkins ‘ troops will put their perfect season on the line when they face the St. Malachy’s Memorial Saints (5-3) at 7 pm at Usher Miller field (KV High). The Saints are coming off a big win Saturday afternoon in their Quarter-final , eliminating Ecole L’Odyssée of Moncton 14-12. The winner of this game will go on to play in the The Nick Desilets Memorial Trophy game. The game will be played at 12 noon on november 12th at Rocky Stone field in Moncton.

In other Semi-Final action (10 man) , the Mathieu-Martin Matadors (7-1) are heading to St. Stephen for a duel against the Spartans. The spartans finished the season with a 7-1 record also and won their Quarter-final by a score 21-20 against the 7th place Harbour View High school Vikings. The game will be played at 1 pm.
