NB: Highlanders get passed undefeated Lions (12 man)

The Bernice Macnaughtan Highlanders have been New Brunswick’s most dominant program in the past years having reached the championship game in 4 of the last 5 New Bruswick high school football seasons. The Highlanders kept there winning ways alive this weekend in Fredericton beating the undefeated Leo Hayes Lions 7-2 in semi final action.

Many people counted the Highlanders out this season , as they posted an unusual 3-3 record in the regular season. They finished tied for 2nd place with the Moncton High Purple Knights but there league low 70 points allowed, placed them ahead of the knights. The Lions on the other hand, stormed through the regular season with a 6-0 record. They also met the Highlanders in week 4 of the regular season in Moncton , winning the Contest 28-14.

On saturday , the Highlanders stingy defence only surrendered 2 points to the Lions high flying offence. The Lions had New Brunswick’s 2nd best offence in the regular season but could not seem to solve the Highlanders defence. Bernice Macnughtan’s offence only needed 7 points on Saturday to move on to the Ed Skiffington trophy game on Saturday in Moncton. The Highlanders major was scored in the first half by Zack Thorne on pass from Kyle mcConnell. The highlanders led 7-2 at halftime and never looked back.

In the other 12 Man semi final on Saturday , the Tantramar Titans thumped the Fredericton High School Black Kats 39-1 in Fredericton , The Titans move on to there first championship game since 1997. The Titans Defence shut down the Province’s best offence , who put up a league high 199 Points in 6 regular season games. The Titans strong running attack led them to the big game next Saturday.

Tantramar’s star Quarterback Michael Bohan seemed to much for the Black Kats defence , using all weapons , including his own speed making it very hard for the opposition to know what was on the way. The Titans defence held there ground for the entire contest , allowing only 1 point to the Black Kats offence.

The all Eastern Conference showdown is set for 3 pm on Saturday afternoon at Rocky Stone field in Moncton. The last time these 2 teams met was in the regular season , with the Titans winning the contest 21-14.
