NCAA: Dixie State downs Simon Fraser in Utah


St. George, UT – Dixie State quarterback Cody Stevenson’s three touchdowns propelled the Red Storm past the Simon Fraser University Clan football team by a score of 42-7 on Saturday night. SFU falls to 1-2 (0-2 GNAC).

J.D. Duncan put Dixie State in front early as he caught an 11-yard pass in the end zone from Stevenson to make it 7-0. Stevenson aired out a 72-yard pass to Jesse Ence to give the Red Storm a two-touchdown lead early in the second quarter. Zack Fox continued the surge with a reception for a touchdown to give DSU a 21-0 lead going into halftime.

With the Dixie State offense deep in the red zone, Ence rushed three yards into the end zone to make it 28-0. DSU added two more touchdowns for insurance from rushes from Stefan Cantwell and Shayne Day, respectively to give the Red Storm a 42-0 lead. Running back Cole Tudor added a touchdown late for SFU but it was not enough.

Stevenson went 17-for-24 for 211 yards and was sacked five times. Clan starting quarterback Trey Wheeler was 13-for-28 for 51 passing yards. Tudor had six rushes for 61 yards, leading all SFU running backs. Defensively, Simon Fraser’s Dan Martin had seven tackles and one sack.

Next up, SFU takes on Humboldt State on September 24 at 2pm at Fox Field.
