OL CFC100 Rain Slater (St. John’s – Winnipeg MB)
It’s been a busy week for Rain Slater who was named to our CFC50 All-Canadian list, but nothing can top the type of day where you officially sign to play at the University of North Dakota.
Slater is one of the gems from north of the border who didn’t need to seek out a prep school to get his name recognized, and he doesn’t even come from the top program in the province either. St. John’s High School, Team Manitoba and pure dedication was all Slater needed to take his game to the next level, and now he’ll join former CFC100 Quintin Seguin at UND, who was another guy that didn’t need to leave his hometown in order for the Fighting Hawks to find him.
UND is coming off a disappointing 3-8 campaign, which was a shocking result considering they were the Big Sky Champions in 2016 with a flawless conference record, but The Fighting Hawks are known as one of the premier FCS programs with the 13th best win percentage in history, so it should be expected they turn things around sooner rather than later with help of top recruits like Slater.
The news is getting better and better. @jcslater00 #CFC50 1st Team All Canadian, @chatfootball Manitoba All Canadian #12 in the top 100. @The_WHSFL Kas Vidruk Linemen Of the Year and Manitoba Aboriginal Youth Achievement Award Recipient in sport. @RecruitReady @UNDFBRecruiting pic.twitter.com/JhxQp9RUOp
