Lloyd Bureau

Quebec linebacker becomes third CEGEP standout to join OUA team’s 2014 class.

Lloyd Bureau will be moving provinces to pursue his CIS career.

The 6ā€™0, 200 pound linebacker from Quebec City, Quebec recently committed to the Western Mustangs for the 2014 OUA season.

ā€œI had heard of Western a little bit in the past, but didn’t know much about it until Coach (Chris) Marcus and Coach (Chris) Bertoia contacted me and a bunch of my teammates to invite us on a visit last summer,ā€ recalled Bureau.Ā  ā€œFrom the moment I set foot on that campus, I fell in love with the school.ā€

ā€œAfter meeting the coaches and the trainers and spending some time with the players on the team, I knew that Western was where I wanted to be.ā€

Bureau is not concerned about having to adjust to living in a different province as he believes he will thrive and succeed with the support of the Mustangs football program.

ā€œLondon is very far from my hometown in Quebec City but by being with the coaches and players, it felt like being in a big a family; as if I had found fathers and brothers away from home and that was a big factor in my decision,ā€ explained the Quebec defensive standout.Ā  ā€œHaving the opportunity to play for a team with a great history like Western is awesome.ā€

ā€œThe coaching staff is top notch and the quality of the players that go through this program is astonishing. Ā I knew I wanted to be a part of this.ā€

Moreover, academics played a role in his decision to sign with the London, Ontario university.

ā€œStudies played an important role in my decision also,ā€ added Bureau.Ā  Ā ā€œWestern has it all.ā€

ā€œI was just recently pre-accepted into Ivey Business School, an affiliate college on the campus. Right now, it is one of the top business schools in the country, and their method of teaching (case study method) is a perfect fit for me. I’m very excited to start studying and playing football at Western!ā€

This past season, Bureau played for CEGEP Division 1 team Vanier Cheetahs. He was ranked first on the team and seventh in the league for tackles (52.5, including seven for a loss). Also, he registered two sacks.Ā  Previous to the Cheetahs, the linebacker suited up for his high school team, RSEQ Juvenile Division 1ā€™s Seminaire Saint-Francois Blizzard.

As for the Mustangs, the team is thrilled to have Bureau join the fold.

ā€œWeā€™re very happy that Lloyd Bureau has chosen to become a part of our football program,ā€ commented Mustangs Recruiting Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach Chris Bertoia.Ā  ā€œLloyd is a great student, has his own business, and has excelled on the field for the Vanier College Cheetahs.ā€

ā€œHe is successful and we believe he will continue to be successful both in the classroom and on the field.Ā  He has great athleticism, intensity and is an instinctual football player.Ā  Weā€™re excited to watch Lloyd fly around in purple and make plays!ā€
