Brampton linebacker joins AUS Conference Champions’ 2014 class.
Damian Halstead will be moving out of his normal comfort zone as he makes the trek out East to play in the CIS.
The 5β11, 235 pound linebacker from Brampton, Ontario recently signed with the Mount Allison Mounties for the 2014 AUS season.
Academics and football played a prominent part in Halsteadβs decision.
βI committed to Mount Allison because I felt that itβs an opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and grow as a person,β expressed Halstead.Β βMount Allison is the number one undergraduate school in Canada, and provides a small school environment with small classes, which I prefer.β
βTheir football program is on the rise, and could potentially become one of the elite programs in the country. They have a great coaching staff that can help take my game to the next level and become the best player I can be.β
The Ontario linebacker has played for the St. Marguerite dβYouville Panthers of the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA) and the Brampton Bulldogs of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).
As for the Mounties, the team is thrilled to welcome Halstead into the fold.
βDamian is an explosive player who hits through his man,β commented Mounties Head Coach Kelly Jeffrey.Β βHe has the perfect make up of a middle linebacker, tough, physical and runs sideline to sideline.”
βOn Damianβs visit he fit in perfectly with our team and will be a great addition to the defense.β
