According to the Chronicle Herald, the Saint Mary’s Huskies have a new Defensive Coordinator.
Gregg Butler has been hired to replace Marcello Simmons who recently joined the CFL’ Hamilton Tiger-Cats as an assistant coach after spending 13 months with the Huskies.
Butler comes with a wealth of experience. He joins the Huskies after a two year stint as Defensive Backs Coach with the OUA’s Guelph Gryphons. Butler filled the Gryphons position after Simmons departed to become the Huskies’ Defensive Coordinator.
Butler was selected as a coach for Team East at the CIS’s 2012 East-West Bowl
The native of Washington, DC has previously coached in the CFL with Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2006), Montreal Alouettes (1999-2001) and Toronto Argonauts (1998) for a total of eight years. Additionally, he spent ten years as a coach in the NCAA ranks.
As a player, Butler suited up for the Philadelphia Bell of the World Football League (WFL), NCAA Division 1 team, Howard Bisons as well as four seasons in the CFL with the Blue-Bombers (1982), Alouettes (1981) and Edmonton Eskimos (1978-1980).
