CFC TOP 100 defensive end signs with OUA team.

A change of scenery is what Osas Lewis Obas Jr. was seeking.

The CFC TOP 100 CLASS 2014 defensive end will be moving to the nationā€™s capital to commence his CIS career.Ā  Recently, the 6ā€™1, 256 pound player has committed to the Ottawa Gee-Gees for the 2014 OUA season.

However, Obas Jr. explained it was a difficult decision.

ā€œI want to know what itā€™s like to be away from home,ā€ commented Obas Jr. ā€œIt was a really tough decision because I was getting a lot of interest from McGill and Carleton which are two very prestigious schools.ā€

ā€œBut it was my family that had the biggest impact in my decision and they’re supporting me 100 percent. I really loved my visit when I came down there in January; I saw that the coaches and players were really straight forward with me. I am very happy of my decision with University of Ottawa and I am ready to bring my knowledge, skills and enthusiasm to the team because at the end of the day, itā€™s all about having fun.ā€

Academics were another major factor in the defensive endā€™s choice to go to Ottawa.

ā€œI’ll be studying in psychology at the University of Ottawa because at the end of the day it not all about football,ā€ explained Obas Jr.Ā  ā€œEducation is the key to success and that is what I am striving for!ā€

Obas Jr., who is a native of Lagos, Nigeria, joins the Gee-Gees after completing his CEGEP career with Division 1 team, Vieux-Montreal Spartiates.Ā  Additionally, Obas Jr. played for his high school team, the Dalbe-Viau Aigles Dā€™Or.

There are several individuals the CFC TOP 100 defensive end (who has also played at the outside linebacker position) credits for getting him to this point in his gridiron journey.

ā€œI’d also like to take the time to thank everyone that has supported me even through the hard times,ā€ expressed Obas Jr.Ā  ā€œI would also like to thank the man that introduced me to football, Dominique Menard.ā€

ā€œIf it weren’t for him, who knows where I’d be. Ā Ā I’d also like to thank Giles Lezi, Fabrice Raymond, David Carson, Steve Alexandre and Cherif Nicholas for being such great coaches and mentors to me.Ā  I’d like to thank “my brother from another mother” Tresor Buama Mafuta (McGill commit) for always pushing me to the limit. Big thank you to my family, I know that all athletes say it but they truly are the reason why I grind so hard. Special thank you to my younger brother Derrick Obas, a few know him but he’s the future #CVM ! Last but not least I’d just like to thank the Lord Almighty for always being here with me and protecting me from all the bad.ā€
