Myers Riders star Legault looks ahead to future with upstart OUA team.

Versatile Myers Riders Star Jacob Legault is motivated in achieving success through the adversity his father has faced throughout his life.

Jacob has enjoyed a successful Ā football career since 2009. He’s played on several All-Star teams, and won numerous Team MVP’s.

“In my last season, I led the Warriors with seven Ā touchdowns, over 750 yards rushing and scored 159 points,” says Jacob. Ā “In 2012, I joined the Ottawa Myers Riders Senior Varsity Football Team (OVFL), finishing second in touchdowns and rushing yards and led the team in total points winning the award for Top Special Teams Player”.

Jacob is in his second season with the Myers Riders. His most memorable football experience was the 2012 OVFL Championship Game.

“Although we lost, I would have to say that playing for Myers Riders in the OVFL championship game against the London Mustangs was my most memorable experience so farm,” says Jacob. Ā “Having said that, winning it all this year will definitely top that experience.”

Unfortunately, Jacob’s father suffered a serious accident in 1975 while playing high school football which left him in a wheelchair and Ā unable to move.

“My dad is a quadriplegic as the result of a high school football injury in 1975 and could easily have tried to discourage me from playing, but he is actually my biggest supporter and prime motivation to excel,” says Jacob. Ā “He knows the game and has pushed me to constantly improve myself.”

“I wear a neck guard because my parents would not let me play without one. It is a small price to pay to play the sport I love,” says Jacob.

Looking towards the future, Jacob will staying in his home province as he will suit up for the Carleton Ravens. Ā Ultimately, there are several goals he would like to achieve in the coming weeks and months out on the field.

“My immediate goal is to help my team win the OVFL Senior Varsity Championship, then to crack the starting roster for the Carleton University Ravens,” says Jacob, who plans to study criminology at the Ottawa campus Ā “After that, who knows?”

“I am only in my fourth year of playing football and I have made giant leaps in my development, so as far as I’m concerned – the sky is the limit.”
