NFL assistant coach John Levra to speak at April convention (FCCA)


The newly formed Football Canada Coaches Association (FCCA) is pleased to announce former NFL coach John Levra as a speaker at the 2011 FCCA CONVENTION being held April 2nd and 3rd in Burlington, Ontario (Corpus Christi High School).

Hundreds of coaches from across Canada will congregate in Burlington, Ontario the weekend of April 2nd and 3rd to watch and listen to a myriad of great speakers. John Levra

John Levra has a well traveled coaching resume that spans 44 years, the last 22 of which were spent coaching professionally. Levra is a former offensive guard and linebacker at Pittsburg State University (Kansas) who started his coaching career in the Kansas high school ranks for seven years before moving onto New Mexico Highlands University. His college coaching career included stints as offensive coordinator with the University of Kansas and as an assistant coach with North Texas.

Levra’s professional coaching career began in 1980 when he joined the BC Lions as the team’s defensive line coach. The next year he moved onto the NFL to become the New Orleans Saint’s running backs coach until 1985. Under Levra’s guidance, former Heisman Trophy winner and first overall 1981 draft pick George Rogers set the NFL rookie record for rushing yards in a season with 1674, 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] place on the all-time list.

From 1986 to 1992, Levra served as a defensive line coach with the Chicago Bears under Mike Ditka. The Bears pass rush was ranked first in sacks in both 1986 and 1987. During his seven years in Chicago Levra helped the Bears win four division titles and made five playoff appearances. The end of his 1988 season was capped off by coaching in the Pro Bowl.

Levra was in high demand during his NFL coaching career which included stints with the Denver Broncos during the 1993 and 1994 seasons as offensive line coach, defensive line coach with the Minnesota Vikings from 1995 to 1997 followed by the Bills from 1998 until 2002. During Levra’s time in Buffalo, the Bills defense finished in the top ten each of Levra’s five years and was ranked number one in 1999.

John Levra is an outstanding teacher in the field of coaching. He is a highly sought-after clinic speaker who has produced three best-selling instructional videos as well as a number of coaching books.
