Niagara lineman first recruit for OUA team’s 2014 class (VIDEO)

An Ontario player had one school on his radar during the entire recruitment process.

Myles Methner never wavered in his interest in the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.Β  Consequently, the 6’2, 275 offensive lineman from Niagara Falls, Ontario has committed to the OUA team for the 2014 season.

From the moment he arrived at the Waterloo, Ontario campus for an official visit, he was hooked and ultimately believed the Golden Hawks were the perfect fit for him.

β€œMy love for the school and football program was born instantly after my recruiting visit,” explained Methner of his decision. β€œI was extremely impressed by the amount of academic support the team provides, as well as what the team believes in and stands for.”

β€œI feel that this is a program that truly is on the rise and I am very excited to be a part of it. The staff that Head Coach Michael Faulds has assembled is second to none. As far as the school itself, I liked the size as well as the location. Laurier was number one on my list throughout the whole recruiting process.”

Additionally, he felt at ease and liked the feeling he got from the Golden Hawks football program.

β€œAlso, I love he family atmosphere that the team provides,” said the Ontario offensive lineman, who will be studying kinesiology at the school.Β  Β β€œThey truly made me feel at home.”

Among the teams Methner has suited up for include Niagara Spears of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and his high school team, St. Michael Mustangs of the Niagara Region High School Athletic Association (NRHSAA). Moreover, he represented Team Ontario West at the 2012 Football Canada Cup in London, Ontario, where the team came away with the bronze medal.

Methner was the recipient of the Mustang Award twice during his high school career.Β  The Mustang Award is given to a player that best exemplifies dedication and leadership on and off the field.Β  The Mustangs standout was also selected to the Niagara Region Minor Football Association (NRMFA) all-star team. This past spring, he was the recipient of the Ontario Football Alliance’s Student Athlete of the Year Award.

Golden Hawks Head Coach Michael Faulds is thrilled of their first recruit for the Class of 2014 and is looking forward to having him on board.
