Niagara Spear set to become Gryphon in 2017

Guelph welcomes another Ontario commit to their 2017 class.

It is said that football is a brotherhood and Sandor Mod, a defensive tackle from the Niagara Spears (Ontario Varsity Football League), will be getting a taste of what that means at a university level after committing to the Guelph Gryphons.

There is something about the atmosphere of the Gryphons’ locker room that drew Mod to Guelph. “(It was) the family aspect of the team and how much the coaches care and put in work for their players, also how well the team bonds together,” he said.

“The university’s coaching staff is amazing. All the coaches were very welcoming and showed interest. They showed they actually care for their players,” he added.

Mod said he also committed to the University of Guelph because of the reputation of the environmental science and veterinary programs. He said he is looking into the school’s animal biology and then his plan is to apply to veterinary school.

Coming from Welland, Ontario, the 6’4, 270lbs player, who also plays defensive end, has played in the #CFCFPC, Team Ontario and Team Canada in his ten-year career. While in this year’s Canada Cup, he helped his team to a bronze metal. He was also given a scholarship award at the 2016 OVFL all-star game.
