No Rest for the Weary???

We had our 2nd game of the season on Mon night , our opponets Henry Wisewood Warriors.
Mckenzie Meeks the QB for the Warriors, Hunter Turnbull and a few other key players fought unitil the very end. We (BOB) had a slow start but finished off strong with a TD by Tommy Williams, Kevin Strybosh and myself. The final score 22-6.
Friday is another upcoming game against Bowness, that is 2 games in 5 days, along with all the practices and working out. I also have sports performance as one of my courses this semester. Can an athlete train too much?
Absolutely! Rest is a key factor no matter what your are training for. I have learned this from my personal trainer (who happens to be yes… my mom). Although I don’t like to admit when she is right, I know she knows what she is talking about. Recovery is one key aspect that may be overlooked when it comes to highschool athletes, especially when they play multiple sports.

The signs of over- training can be:
* Having a hard time getting to sleep
* Achiness or pain in your muscles
* Feeling Tired
* Headaches
* Resting HR is higher then usual
* Hard to complete your workouts
* Lack of enthusiusm for the game
* Getting frequent colds
* Not hungry
* Decrease in performance

My schedule consists of rest, eating right, ( I drink chocolate milk right after my workouts it’s a great snack to grab and it has the right nutrition and it helps with my recovery for the next workout), hydrating properly and working out with the right periodization program for the sport your in. This will help with over- training and getting that crucial rest before the next big game. Rest and recovery, don’t overlook it in your program!
