Northern Bowl: Steelhawks prevail in low scoring affair (stats)

After a slow start, the Superior Heights Steelhawks (Sault Ste Marie) hung on to win the first year schools first Northern Bowl.

Things looked good early for the Westgate Tigers (Thunder Bay) when they recovered a muffed punt catch in the endzone to go up 7 to 0 early in the first quarter. Things could have been even better when the Tigers drove down to the 8 yard line of the Steelhawks but came away with no points, early in the first quarter.

As the game continued Superior Heights began to control the tempo of the game and made some big defensive turnovers. An interception by Matt Fitton being one of those game changing plays.

Some big pass plays, namely a 70 yard TD to receiver Iain Hutchinson from Casey Wright, changed the momentum at got the Steelhawks on the board.

Congrats to both teams on a great year…and for playing the earliest football game in Canada this season (9 am start).
