Nova Scotia recruit envisions bright future for SMU

Sackville linebacker joins AUS team’s 2015 class.

Andre Martell will be commencing his CIS journey in his own backyard.

Saint Mary’s Huskies have announced that the 6’0, 10 pound linebacker from Sackville, Nova Scotia has committed to the football program.Β  Martell will join the team for the 2015 AUS season.

β€œWe are extremely happy to add a student athlete like Andre to the SMU football family,” commented Huskies Head Coach Perry Marchese.

This past November, Martell led Sackville High Kingfishers of the Nova Scotia Student Athletic Federation Football League (NSSAFFL) to the Provincial Tier 2 Championship. In 2014, the linebacker registered 46 tackles, recorded 3.5 sacks, two blocked punts and three blocked conversions.

Martell chose the Huskies because he liked the comfort level he felt and is thrilled to be part of the team.

β€œI committed to Saint Mary’s because the university had a hometown feeling and the staff and students were very welcoming as well as the team was very supportive on my arrival to the team,” explained Martell of his decision. Β β€œI am very excited to continue my career with the Huskies.”
